Anxiety fell in 17 of 17 pooled trials
Read the detail
A 2026 meta-analysis pooled 17 trials and 987 adults. Colouring a structured design produced a significant reduction in anxiety against control conditions. Sessions of thirty minutes or less outperformed longer ones, and programmes of six to eight sittings were the common shape.
The authors rate the overall certainty of evidence as low to very low, mostly because the trials are small. It is a real effect in the data, not a medical treatment.
